History and Context:
Semenivka Evangelical Baptist Church is located in the region of Chernihiv and is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from the city of Chernihiv. The region was under Russian control in February 2022 during the first days of the war. The city resisted control and the Russian army eventually withdrew from the area. The village endured significant destruction and the majority of the people living in the community surrounding the church have very low-incomes. The church, which was founded in Semenivka 30 years ago, is small with 50 members. Baptisms are held twice a year. The church’s mission is to bring as many people as possible to Christ and to assist those in difficult life situations.
Primary Ministries:
Semenivka Evangelical Baptist Church ministers to the needs within their community of low-income families, elderly people, large families, and those who have lost relatives or homes. They provide food and basic supports to those in need.
Current Needs:
- Purchase of a church vehicle to transport people to the larger city of Chernihiv so they can have access to essential services like hospitals, banks, and government institutions
- Purchase of food and other essential items for those living in poverty and those affected by the destruction of the war
