Grieving the Loss
Statement regarding the Kamloops Indian Residential School
The National Council of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada joins with the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc First Nation to grieve the recent discovery of 215 children found in unmarked graves at the Indian Residential School in Kamloops, BC. We are reminded again of a painful chapter in Canadian history.
We lament over the loss of these children, taken many years ago from their families. We sorrow alongside these families, their communities, and all First Nations in Canada.
We have heard from the indigenous community, who once again remind us that reconciliation will never come by words alone, but through action. We encourage our churches, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to carefully listen, learn, and act as we sorrow together with the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc First Nation and the indigenous peoples of Canada.
May the Lord’s comfort reign in our hearts,
